Regarding weebly, I was thinking that I could assign each student to create a weebly website as an icebreaker activity at the beginning of year.  I created a weebly for myself as an example for students to use.  The link can be found here.  I would like to invite each student in my upcoming classes to create a weebly website to let me know about themselves.  There is also a nifty contact information feature that students can include (that I would require) to give me an instant database of contact information!

To create a weeby website, go this site.

  1. This sounds like an awesome idea! I never thought of using a website to get to know my students. I might just have to steal this idea ;) At the beginning of each school year I have my students create personality bears and present them to the class. Considering we are in the 21 century, I should probably revamp this activity and this would be perfect! If I ever chose to use Weebly again during a lesson the students would already know how to use it! Thanks for the great idea!

  2. Great idea to use Weebly as a beginning of the year icebreaker! I have always had students fill out an info sheet with student/parent contact info, past math class experience, goals for the class, and a bunch of questions about their favorite tv shows, music artists, sports teams, etc. After students have filled them out, I've had each student share a couple of things with the class before turning in the form, but this would be a much more exciting way to accomplish the same thing. And, like Brandi said above, then students would have experience using Weebly so you wouldn't have to devote as much time to explaining how to use it if you wanted to incorporate it into an activity or project during the school year. Thanks for the inspiration to convert my existing method into something more engaging and instructional!

  3. Weebly automatically created an About page and a Contact page. Either put some content on them or delete those pages.
